
Dudley Sixth College students are once more celebrating their A level results, with a 100% overall pass rate in 24 of 28 A level subjects offered at the college. But even more impressively 42% of all entries were achieved at high grades (A*- B), and 77% grades A*- C.
The national picture suggests results have returned to the pre-pandemic level with 82% of all A level learners securing their first place at university with 30,000 additional places available in clearing.
Celebrating with learners today College Chief Executive and Principal Diana Martin said:
“This is one of my favourite days of the year and proves Dudley College is a great place to study, as the achievements of our Dudley Sixth learners makes me extremely proud. I am delighted that the high grades they have achieved will provide them with a springboard to go on and do ever more exciting things when pursuing fulfilling careers. Learners from Dudley are going to universities around the country including York , Durham and Essex and others will move on to higher apprenticeships.”
Acknowledging this year’s results have seen even more students than last year secure high grades she added:
“I’m delighted that this year’s results are reflecting the upward trend in high grades that the college has been demonstrating over the past three years. We have an overall pass rate of 99% and 19 subjects improved their A*-C grades.”
Individual outstanding success stories include Taran Bougan (aged 19) who achieved three A*grades in Business A*, Law A* and Criminology A*. Commenting on his time at college Taran said:
“I’m relieved to get the grades I did, as I put a lot of pressure on myself to do well and missed a lot of football to revise, so I’m reassured that as my tutors told me hard work always pays off. “
“A Levels are pretty hard, but I found all of my teachers really supportive, and they helped my love of Law and Business develop.”
Passing on advice to future students he said: “Stay disciplined, focus on your end goal and don’t get distracted.”
Taran has already secured employment and training with a securing a Degree Apprenticeship with Barclays so he can pursue a career in Finance.
Head of Dudley Sixth Ben France, who oversees Dudley Sixth’s A level programmes said:
“We have shown that we are able to nurture young people and bring the best out of them in their educational attainment. As Head of Dudley Sixth, it’s great to see students doing well in all subject areas across Sciences, Arts and Social Science programmes. We have some strong performances this year with 77% of all learners achieving A*-C grades.”
Tia Jackson (aged 18) and Karen Moponda (aged 18) are both be going on to university places after obtaining a clutch of high grades. With Tia obtaining: Business A, Law A and Psychology B allowing her to move to Birmingham University to study Law. Whilst Karen will take up a place at the University of Nottingham after achieving an A* in Law, A in Criminology and B in Psychology. Celebrating along with her sister Ketia Karen described her time at college as enjoyable saying:
“Coming to Dudley College was definitely right for me it was very supportive, and teachers gave you space and room to breathe. I’d tell new students to just enjoy the journey as it goes real fast.”
