Dudley Sixth Form Centre will provide a state-of-the-art learning environment

Young people from across the Black Country looking to further their career plans with an exciting range of traditional and modern A levels will be able to study at Dudley Sixth from September 2012. Work on the new multi-million pound purpose-built sixth form centre on Ednam Road in Dudley begins this month, with the site being made ready for the building contractor, ISG, to commence before Christmas.

The sixth form centre will provide a state-of-the-art learning environment with the latest technology, easy-to-access resources to support study, and lively, modern places for students to relax during their free lesson time. Students studying at Dudley Sixth will also have access to a gym, sport facilities, theatre and other facilities housed within a new campus area being developed in the centre of the town called the Dudley Learning Quarter.
This development is unusual in that, whilst it is open to all post 16 learners, it is a partnership project  involving five local schools who will work with the college in providing a seamless transition for students who go on to study at A level. The partners involved are The Cosley School, The Holly Hall Academy, The High Arcal High School, Castle High School, The Dormston School and Dudley College.

“Although we’ve only just appointed our building contractor don’t let this deter you from applying if you want to study at Dudley Sixth next September” explained Robert Chapman, Director of Dudley Sixth, “We’ve already started taking applications for places, and recruitment is brisk as lots of young people are keen to secure a place.

“We were aware that there was a need for a dedicated Sixth Form Centre, particularly in the north and centre of the borough, and I’m confident that this new development will give young people an alternative when they consider where they do their A levels. Working in partnership with the five local schools will be very beneficial to our students, as it offers continuity and reassurance for young people and their parents, that opting to study at Dudley Sixth will deliver the A level results they need for university or their chosen career path.”

Dudley Sixth will have an unashamed focus on academic excellence by offering over thirty five AS and A2 levels in a range of different subjects, from maths to media, languages to law and sports to science, backed up by outstanding support and teaching. Dudley Sixth will also incorporate a specialist STEM Centre (science, mathematics, technology and engineering) which will provide new facilities to support academic and vocational learning in the all important STEM subjects.
